Dr. Ty C.M. Hoffman
BIO156: Introductory Biology for Allied Health
Estrella Mountain Community College

This course requires you to purchase access to McGraw Hill Connect, and that purchase includes access to the eText version of the Brooker textbook, Principles of Biology. That textbook will be especially useful for completing the corresponding Connect homework. However, please do not feel as though that eText is the only textbook you may use. I don't strictly require any textbooks for my courses. The choice of whether to use a textbook is yours. There are several textbooks devoted to general biology. Any of them will provide you with the necessary information. The main difference is that they will vary in the way the material is presented to you. There is no single book that is best for every student. If you would like to have a hard copy of a textbook (which is not required), then whichever book you choose, there's no great need to buy the latest (and therefore most expensive) edition. Below you will find links to new and used copies of the textbooks I use for my courses, as well as several other books that might help you. They are only suggestions. All of these are optional. Keep in mind that the only REQUIRED expenditure is purchase of access to Connect. That purchase must be made through the McGraw Hill Connect link on the Canvas site for this course.

The important thing is for you to have a textbook that is useful to you personally. All of my examinations will feature questions taken directly from my lectures. Nearly all of that information can be found in just about any general biology textbook.
